Font pairings for business cards

A business card is tiny and handled up close. The name carries the brand; the details have to stay sharp at 7–9pt. The examples above show the current pairing on business cards; press Space for another, or pick one below.

Small type, real paper

Contact details print at 7–9pt. Choose a body face with open shapes and avoid hairline weights that break up in print.

The name is the headline

Set the name or brand in the heading face with a little extra letter spacing at small sizes.

Leave room

White space reads as confidence on a card. Two fonts and two sizes are usually enough.

Questions

What size should text be on a business card?
Names around 10–14pt and details around 7–9pt. Anything smaller is hard to read in print.
Serif or sans-serif for a business card?
Serifs feel established and personal; sans-serifs feel modern and direct. Match the rest of the brand.
